VTCT Level 2 Diploma for Hair Professionals (Hairdressing) Apprenticeships

 

Working as a hairdresser to provide hair cutting, styling and grooming services for men and women.

What Modules will you learn?

On-programme stage – On-programme training and assessment is carried out by achieving the Diploma for Hair Professionals (Hairdressing), which consists of the units shown below:

Route 1 – Hairdressing

Mandatory:

Unit 1 Consultation
Unit 2 Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
Unit 3 Cut hair using a range of techniques to create a variety of looks
Unit 4 Style and finish hair using a range of techniques to create a variety of looks
Unit 5 Colour and lighten hair using a range of techniques

Options (choose one)

Unit 6 Perming hair
Unit 7 Hair relaxing treatments and techniques assessed on-programme only.
Unit 8 Hair extension services

The end-point assessment tests the skills, knowledge and behaviours set out in the standards by:
1) a practical assessment 2) Oral questioning.

It is the final stage of the Diploma for Hair Professionals (Hairdressing) which is required for completion of the Hair Professional apprenticeship.

End Point Assessment Overview – 1) Observation of practical assessment 2) Oral questioning Skills, knowledge and behaviour from the mandatory sections of the Hair Professional Apprenticeship standard will be Assessed by an Independent Assessment Examiner appointed by the assessment organisation. You will be awarded either a Pass or Distinction.

English & Maths

Apprentices without level 1 English and maths will need to achieve this level and apprentices without level 2 English and maths will need to take the tests for this level prior to taking the end-point assessment. For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement, the apprenticeship’s English and maths minimum requirement is Entry Level 3. A British Sign Language (BSL) qualification is an alternative to the English qualification for those whose primary language is BSL.

  • What this course includes

    This apprenticeship, which must last for a minimum of 24 months, combines hands-on work with the opportunity to train and obtain qualifications. It’s also a paid position, so you earn while you learn. At least 20% of your time is set aside for learning, usually at a college, university or with a training provider such as Skill.Fill.

    The rest of your time is spent applying your knowledge and skills in the actual workplace, doing the job that you set out to get. At the end of it, you’ll gain official certification, which will be equivalent to traditional qualifications.

    There is no maximum age limit for an apprenticeship, but they are for those aged 16 or over, living in England and not in full-time education.

    As an apprentice, you’ll earn a wage. The current minimum wage rate for an apprentice is £4.15 per hour. This rate applies if you’re under 19, or if you’re aged 19 or over and are in your first year. You must be paid the national minimum wage for your age if you’re an apprentice aged 19 or over and have completed your first year. The national minimum wage is currently set at £6.45 for 18- to-20-year-olds, £8.20 for 21- to 24-year-olds and £8.72 for those aged 25 and over.

    On top of this, you’ll be paid for your normal working hours and the training that’s part of your apprenticeship, usually one day per week. You’ll also be entitled to the statutory minimum of 20 days of paid holiday per year, plus bank holidays, of which there are currently eight.

    A salon placement is mandatory. This is a work based learning qualification and it is likely you will work between 30-37 hours per week at a salon placement. We may be able to support you with finding a placement if required.

    Funding is available for this course.

    You will be fully supported by your Employer and your Course Tutor and Assessor within your place of work .They will help and guide you through the process from beginning to end. Both your Employer and Assessor will ensure that you not only reach your goals but maintain industry and awarding body standards.
